Sadly, the variety of pizza available to us these days does not support our weekly habit. We have continued to enjoy Hearth and Table as well as The Café on Hawk Creek. However, much to our chagrin, they are both closed temporarily.
Sometimes the first pizza we have at a new-to-us restaurant does not thrill. We visited Sorella with high hopes a couple of months ago but found the pizza, while tasty, to be overly salty. I was ready to write it off as not-so-worthy; however, we were impressed by the overall menu and rather than judge on […]
La Buca means hole, and can even refer to a subterranean trattoria, but La Buca di Ripetta (literally “the hole in Ripetta Street) is a far cry from a “hole.” We average dining here about once-a-year. We should come here more often. It is very close to the lively scene at Piazza del Popolo, but down […]
The best pizza in Ortisei in the Val Gardena is…in Santa Cristina. Spending a full month in this delightful mountain valley afforded us the opportunity to get out of Ortisei and try pizza in neighboring Santa Cristina. Lucky we did because we found a mighty fine pie, worthy of OWP praise. In four weeks we […]
After our disastrous but amusing pizza experience in Chamonix, another Pizza Venerdi* rolled around and found us in Lugano, Switzerland. Leaving the old town, we found — I kid you not — Domino’s Pizza on the lakeside. This one is Ristorante Pizzeria Bar Domino. We were almost alone at Domino this evening, with rush hour over and a view […]
Swiss pizza, who’d have guessed? We were in Chur overnight to take the UNESCO World Heritage Bernina Express through a very scenic section of Switzerland. We identified Punctum, a cute aperitivo place, during an afternoon walk, intending to have just that: un’aperitivo, meaning a glass or two of wine and some light bites. Upon perusing the menu, […]
We spent a delightful week with family in Seattle and were treated to our weekly pizza in outing at Tutta Bella. This is pretty darn impressive pizza, conforming to the standards of the Associazione Verace Pizza Napolitana. (Who knew?) That’s real Neapolitan, my friends. Cooked in beautiful wood-fired ovens, you cannot get much closer to Naples-style than Tutta […]
